2006 Rescue Letters

Here's my new buddy Denali - I like her alot!

HI Igrr,

It's been a couple of months since I found my forever home and I just turned 6 months old and boy am I spoiled. My sister Denali and I get lots of love, treats, car rides, playtimes, trips to the dog park, walks and unfortunately baths because we seem to find mud everywhere we go. My Mom and Dad are so happy with me and how I fit right into the family. I sit really well and am getting better at going to the door to potty.

At my house, I have a really comfy bed and lots of good food to eat, my favorite toy is a stuffed banana. I sleep with it. Mom and Dad took Denali and I swimming(my first ever!) on a lake and Denali pulled me right in( I had her tail in my mouth and was not about to let go. I am a good swimmer (Grandpa says we are part duck) and now Denali and I fetch sticks together and swim side by side. We are never apart for very long.

So far I think my favorite food is green beans. Daneli and I broke into Grandpa's garden and ate them all gone! They were tasty. I love visiting our grandparents in Minnesota. They spoil us more than Mom and Dad and Daneli and I get to snuggle and sleep in the backseat all the way there. At our Grandparents house, we have a kiddie pool to play in and we gets lots of cuddles as anyone who knew me from IGRR knows I love. I loooooovvvee to cuddle! and lots of squeakly toys and more treats. They call us their granddogs.

During Mom and Dad's wedding I got to meet little kids for the first time. They scream and laugh a lot and love when I chase them. Denali would knock them on their bottom and then I woudl give them kisses while they laugh. It was fun. I like kids. Mom and Dad are learning more and more about me evyer day and I'm learning new things from them and Denali too. We are all very happy together and want to thank everyone at IGRR, especially LInda and Patti, for bring us together and saving my life. You are all wonderful in what you are doing for us animals.

Love,
Duece, Travis, Niki and Denali

From Joey Tursi

Well, hello everyone at IGRR! I hope everything is going as well for you as it has been for me. This is Joey, the big red dog and I just wanted to give you a six month update and send some lovely pictures of me and my new amenities. I had no idea when I left IGRR I would be getting two great homes for the price of one, but WOW what a great surprise.

My Mom and Dad are the best and I learned very early how to get everything I want from them. As you can see in my photos , I have a beautiful big bed to sleep in. - they try to crowd me out at night, but I just climb right on top of Mom and make myself comfy!. I still love my stuffed toys and have a whole zoo. A zebra, a monkey, a fox, an octopus, a puppy and two frogs! Plus lots of balls and tugs too. My favorite game is fetch and I love is when they throw my toys up in the loft. I run up the stairs like crazy to find it and then stare down at the through the handrail with the toy in my mouth!

I have taken on a new sleep schedule with Dad. I make sure Mom drifts off okay, but then I stay up and play with Dad all night. That's okay though because we sleep in pretty late in the mornings!. And by the time he leaves for work, it's not too long before mom comes home from work. So I don't spend much time alone but when I go outside I have lots of animals to watch; bunnies, deer, squirrels. I like to bark at them. Sometimes I get to visit Grandma and Grandpa's house when my Mom and Dad go out of town. It's fun there. I get lots of good treats. Mom and Grandma take me for a walk every day. And I love car rides! Thanks for finding my new forever home,

Love, Joey

A letter from Charlie's new family!

Well, We're officially in love, Charlie is just a big sweetheart! He has done so well in his first 24 hours. He's adjusted so beautifully and is the most gentle soul! He doesn't even try to go after the cat! In fact, he went up and touched his nose to hers. She's still not quite sure she trust him, but he wants to be friends with her so badly.

Charlie has already had quite a bit of fun. Last night, we went for a ride in the jeep and went hiking (and then grilled hotdogs) at a park. He was able to be off leash quite abit and he always came right back! Last night, we let him sleep in our room, and he actually did really well! Today we took him to a lake to let him swim. He was a little scared, but we kept bringing him out a little ways and letting him swim back, and he seemed to get the hang of it more and more. The kids adore him. They are always begging to be the one to walk him or give him a treat. Speaking of treats, I think he's the fastest eater I've ever seen! Whenever he eats, we have to gather around to watch him. it's quite the entertainment.

I want to thank you so much for allowing us to take this wonderful dog into our family! We promise to give him a good home.

Jessica, Kevin, Laurel and Brooke

Hello Everyone at IGRR!!!

Sorry it has taken so long for me to write. Well, my mom is writing this and I am telling her what to say! I have been so busy in my new home. I have 2 brothers, Wyatt is 4 and Louis is 2. THEY JUST LOVE ME!!!. I have so many jobs with them! When we play, I am the dragon, Mom is the princess, Wyatt and Louis are the good guys and Dad is the bad guy. I am not sure what a dragon goes, but I get to run around with Wyatt and Louis and try to rescue Mom. One night, big brother Wyatt had to go play tee ball. Little louie was NOT happy that he could not play too. Mom had a great idea ( she is so smart)! That night, Mom got out the soccer ball, and Louie and I ran around the yard and played soccer until we were laughing so hard, we had to stop. Then of course, Wyatt was mad that he was playing tee ball and not soccer with us. Mom said something like "she can't win for trying." It's all good.

Speaking of tee ball, here a picture of me helping Dad coach Louis with the tee ball. We are all just concentrating so hard.

Here is also a picture of me in Mom's truck. I play this game with her, that Louie and Wyatt are in the car seats and Mom is running late. What is really fun is having Mom get me out of the truck, when she has something on called "work clothes" on. I love to leave my dog hair all over them when we play this game, so she is reminded of me all day long. Everytime she finds my dog hair on her she says she just smiles.

Now a message from MOM..

Thank you IGRR for opening up your hearts and homes to these dogs. I cannot tell how special Jake is to our family. He gives so much love! We try to give it all back to him because he deserves every ounce of it. Jake is a gift to our family, and we will cherish him forever. Jake,, aka Jakey, Jacob, Jakey Jake and my Buddy... is doing great. We had to train Dad to watch for the signs of letting Jake out, but once Dad got it,..it was good. Jake is wonderful with the kids. He is right by me at night when I check on the boys sleeping. He has to sniff both of them to make sure they are there. If the boys are crying, Jake is right there, usually in between myself and the boys. I have to tell him that they are ok and everyone is all right. It is precious.

Thanks you for saving Jake. We cannot imagine life without him.

From Teddy,

I just wanted to send you some pics for the IGRR Website from my new home. I really have settled in well... my only problem is that my new mom loves to cook and I have a real hard time not getting up on the counters and helping myelf to things like peanut butter cookies that are cooling, salami that is on a plate with cheese and sourdough bread that has garlic butter on it. I know I'm not supposed to do it but I just can't help myself!

Just so you remember me, I came to the Des Moines area from Missouri two weeks ago. I lived with my first new mom, Cindy, for about a week. I had 5 step-brothers and sisters there and it was so much fun to have a big family.. Cindy took such good care of me and she found my new parents thru IGRR. They sent their son, my new brother Ken, to visit me and see if he thought I'd like to live with my new folks. He thought I was so perfect for them that they came to Cindy's house the very next Sunday to see me. Mom said it was "instant Love" and Dad says I'm such a good boy that they just had to take me home with them.

When we got back home to Davenport, they showed me where I was going to sleep, where I could play outside in the big, fenced yard where I can see everything going on in the neighborhood because we live on a corner, and they introduced me to Sara, my new sister and her baby Katie. I am very good with babies which is something we never knew before. Katie is 5 months old and I love to sit at her feet when she is in her exersaucer. She lets me kiss her toes and she laughs.

Soooooo, my Mom and Dad think that IGRR is the best thing in the whole world because that's where they found me. I had all my shots, was carefully groomed and looked very handsome when they came to meet me and I had been neutered so they didn't have to worry about that. Cindy was so kind to me and fostered me just like she takes care of her own doggies. At my new home I have lots of room to play and sleep and I get lots of love and attention. Dad walks me every day, Mom lets me sleep on the bed with her until Dad is ready for sleep, and then I have my own bed right there in the room with them. They hardly ever leave me alone. When they do, it's just for a couple of hours and I'm such a good boy that I haven't chewed anything or made a mess. Mom is signing me up for obedience lessons so I can learn new things and I am just so happy. You can see me smiling in the pictures.

Thanks You IGRR for my new home and family.
Love, Teddy Welty

Here's another success story, from Josie aka, Glory.

Her mom wanted to change her name to SKY because she jumps so high but in the end Josie won. She is doing very well, always smiling and usually has a ball or Kong in her mouth.. She loves the neighborhood kids and other dogs,YOU can see, one dog in the picture sneaks under the fence to visit Josie. We tell everyone that Josie is 1/2 kangaroo because she can jump so high and she wants to play ball 24 x 7. Now she is learning how to catch Disc and flies in the air. You may see her on ESPN someday playing with frisbees.

We are starting dog class next week - She is doing so well on the leash using the gentle leader.
